Bipasha GuptaRoy
is the choreographer and founder of
Srijan. She
trained
for almost 20 years at the Uday Shankar Cultural Center in Calcutta, India,
under the tutelage of Smt. Amala Shankar
(Uday Shankar's wife). After receiving
her diploma in dance from the Center, Bipasha continued as a part of the
Center's troupe performing at the American Dance Festival in North Carolina. In
addition
to her training in creative dance, Bipasha has trained in the classical Indian
dance style of Bharatnatyam with Leela
Samson.
In Boston she continued her BharatNatyam
training with Neena Gulati of the Triveni
School of Dance, and started training in the Odissi dance form. Bipasha's participation in a
choreography workshop by Mark Morris in 1994, added a new dimension to her
more
recent choreographies. Currently Bipasha choreographs the senior
troupe in Boston, MA and also teaches dance in Troy,
MI. She is also a
guest lecturer in the Department of Dance at Wayne State University in Detroit
and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
